The following items have been taken from the Group’s records and archive.   Whilst every attempt has been made to ensure accuracy this is not guaranteed.  Anybody wishing to supply further information regarding any items on this page is encouraged to do so via a member of the committee.   Additional material will then be incorporated into the website, as appropriate and with the committee’s approval. Other material relating to past activities of the Group is welcome and should be submitted via a committee member for approval prior to it’s posting on the site.

The first newsletter, published in March 1981, was called ‘Intercom’.  The content included details of future talks to NAAG, arrangements for a NAAG sales stand, to be taken to aviation-related events, and the sale of T- shirts with the NAAG logo. One item discussed and subsequently put into effect was the setting up of a library, which is still in existence today.    Within six months, 15 books/magazines had been acquired, and the Group now has an extensive book and video collection. In the same month (September 1981) the name of the newssheet was changed to ‘Talk Down’.

During the first years of the Group arranged visits to Monarch Airlines, BAE, RAF Mildenhall Air Fete, RAF Eastern RADAR and RAF Bentwaters.  Security at that time was less stringent, and over the following years several outings were arranged each year.  Some of the visits that have taken place are illustrated below:

One of the earlier trips was to a Families Day at RAF Coltishall, on 28th May 1983. A Genair SD3-30 was hired to fly from Norwich   directly to Coltishall.   The photograph shows items being unloaded from the hold.   This was possibly the shortest flight a number of members had ever taken!

On the 31st July 1982 the group hired an Air UK Fokker F27 to visit the RAF Wyton Air Display at a cost of £17.00 per person.  The Group also attended air shows at RAF Wyton on 16th July 1983 and 15th July 1984, when they assisted Air UK with the operation of pleasure flights costing £5.00 per head
