Norwich
Airport Aviation Group founded in 1979
NAAG
was founded at the end of 1979, by a small group of
Norwich
Airport
and Air Anglia personnel. In addition to being a club where like-minded
enthusiasts can meet to share their interest in many aspects of aviation, it
also promotes the local airport and associated companies. Originally meetings
were held in the airport terminal building, but a steady increase in flights and
tighter security arrangements have necessitated the move to Anglian Windows
Sports and Social Club.
At
the meetings speakers from at home and abroad give talks on a wide range of
aviation-related topics, both civil and military, past and present. These have
included both civil and military pilots, old and young, covering a wide range of
aircraft types from Spitfire to Concorde. Pilots from the Red Arrows, a Concorde
captain, a Spitfire pilot and the RAF Presentation Team have been amongst the
guest presenters. Some talks are of a more personal nature, recounting for
example WW2 experiences, service or civilian careers. Aviation museums and
aircraft restoration projects are amongst other topics, which have also included
the more technical aspects of flying such as aviation medicine, airport fire
services and air traffic control.
Anyone
interested in the Group’s activities is most welcome to attend as a guest.
Meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday evening of the month. Details
of speakers are publicised in the local press (EDP ‘The
Event supplement - ‘Events and Concerts’’ section) on the Friday
before a meeting, and on Radio Norfolk, and Radio Broadland. This information
can also be found in our display cabinet within the main concourse at Norwich
International
Airport where there is more about the Group and how to become a member. Further information
can also be obtained by telephoning the Membership Secretary, Steve Brown on
